Hello.
This week on Renaissance Kingdoms, Native Kingdoms and Shogun Kingdoms we implemented a functionality change which enables characters working in the mines to break down their work so they can do 1h, 2h, 6h, 12h or 24h time slots instead of making that a compulsory “daily action”, in other words, an action which lasts a whole day from 4 am one day to 4 am the next day (this example is for Renaissance Kingdoms and with Paris GMT time).
In-house, we call this modification “desynchronization” of the mines. Actually, the goal here is to make sure not everything works around this fateful and arbitrary time of 4:00 in the morning.
This change has generated a lot of reactions and I think these reactions deserve a response and some adjustments.
1. Reaction of the council members responsible for the mines and economy
First of all a concern from the sheriffs and the mine superintendents: Isn't this improvement likely to decrease the resources of the provinces?
The answer is no. For reference:
- This update was carried out with constant returns, in other words, whatever the time slots worked by the players the profits and the maintenance costs are always affected by the same multiplying coefficient.
– In addition, I think that once this update is adjusted and settled, the resources produced by the miners will be a little more important than they were before: the income as well as the costs will increase and so will the net earnings.
I am not talking about the new mechanism of smoothing the maintenance costs over a month, which has many aspects that can be discussed but which interests very few players directly.
In short, the current situation of the provinces will not change or only by a little (and in the good sense).
We are all also working on two other things:
- To improve the statistics of the mines for the sheriffs and the mine superintendents because they are a bit complicated.
To fix a bug and behead the people responsible – but we now have a new system implemented within Celsius: every code done by a developer has to be approved by two other developers (they even have to sign a document, oh yes!). Therefore, if there is a bug there will be three people responsible to behead.
2. "Click to win"?
A second type of reaction was noted on the forum: some moan that those players who are in the game more often can earn more coins. It’s true that not everyone can login 4 times a day and those who can are able to earn a bit more in the mines. A player even coined the expression “click to win” (quote).
Honestly speaking, I am not convinced by these reactions. On the one hand, regarding the players who login more often and have an advantage in the game – I say it clearly – that does not pose a particular philosophical problem to me. Anyway at the end of the day: can someone be constable of a province and log in only every second day? I doubt it.
It is also worth mentioning that the benefit given by these short actions is very very moderate anyway. If a player connects 24 times (!) per day, which appears humanly impossible to me, they will earn on average… 7.5 more coins (thus +50%) than a player who logs in only once. This is very little for 24 logins! If we take a more sensible approach of about 4 logins over a whole day, which is not bad anyway, they will earn an extra 3 coins… It seems difficult to me nevertheless to imagine that this can change the game balance so radically. Some time ago we gave a couple of coins to players when they clicked on certain links (some of our “partner sites”). We are talking along the same lines here.
Plus, let us be frank: I kept saying this to my team all the time that I think this maximum (theoretical) profit of only +50% is honestly not enough.
As I’m writing I will make a short side note now. Some among you perhaps flinched while reading about the 24 logins per days being “humanly impossible”. So that crafty people don't consider trying to create bots to work in the mines without having to click: we will detect this, we will find your physical address, we will come to your house, we will hurt your close relatives and we will eat your pets. End of side note.
3. Organizational problem: the case of those who don’t login regularly
A third series of reactions seem very important to me and we looked at them very carefully. They concern the players who basically say that “given the way that I play the game this update will penalise me / complicate my life.” It is a problem which we can describe as a problem of organization (it becomes more difficult for the player to organize their game).
Let us consider a case where a player logins in usually in evening about 19:30 after coming back from work IRL. Let us assume that they work in the mines. Let us assume they chose to work for 24 hrs. It appears nothing changes for that player: they earn the same amount for that 24h period.
Except that, the following day, they come back earlier from their work at 18:30. They must wait an hour before being able to do an action. Let us imagine that, as a result, they will do something else (RP on the forum, washing-up, homework). They return at 20:00 and can click to work 24 hrs. As a result, the next day, after coming back from work at 19:30, they realise… that they must still wait 30 minutes to be able to work again in the mine. In short, it is a great deal less practical.
To counter this problem the solution is simple: instead of lasting 24hrs, the longest action (which corresponds to the usual daily amount) will last 22hrs (even 20hrs, we’re thinking about it). Thus, these consequences of moving from one day to the next will disappear.
4. Organizational problem 2: interaction with other economy-based actions
Other problems of organization have been reported by players who pointed out the interaction between working in the mine (desynchronized action) and the other actions of the game (synchronized actions). So I think that a clarification should be made.
Indeed, players point out that the time overlap of various types of actions makes the game complicated: if someone works in the mine between 1h and 7h in the morning then they cannot carry out any more daily actions like working in a field or moving with an army.
Let us speak about these single “economy-based” actions (working in the fields, in the church, in its workshop, etc.) other than the travel actions. These actions will all be desynchronized in the near future. That will bring much more flexibility to players. For example, someone will be able to work in the mine between 1 and 7, then fish from 7 to 8, then work in their workshop for 24 hrs.
Side note: Desynchronized action does not necessarily equate to fragmented action. It will not be possible (at least in the near future) to work only 6 hrs in a villager's field. On the other hand, I don’t see a problem with a blacksmith making only one bucket if they want it.
In short, on this point: we will work quickly on the overall desynchronization as it was planned.
5. Organizational problem 3: interaction with travel actions
Now, what of the interaction between the desynchronized actions and the travel actions? Indeed, contrary to the economy-based actions, we don’t really see them being desynchronized (they affect many players).
The answer is simple: as soon as all the economy-based actions are desynchronized (so that there won’t be any shortfalls), I do not see any problem with players freely carrying out, under certain conditions, travel actions. Therefore, a player could work in the mine until 23h, and at 23h decide to travel to the town next door.
6. Why are we doing this?
There are still many questions: at the end of the day, why change this, where does this take us? This is a key question, and perhaps we should have started with that.
Let us quickly address the players who have moaned under the general theme “All of this is motivated by the intention of displaying more advertisements to earn more money. It is for short-term profit, which is really bad”. For starters, we never implemented this update with the goal of displaying more and more ads. But even if it were the case, we would not have a big problem in saying it – Celsius Online is a company which must pay its wages every month.
But especially, and all those who know a little about the Web know this, what determines the advertising revenues, on a site like Renaissance Kingdoms, is not the number of pages accessed per user (which is already too important for the overseers) but the number of users. If the players login twice per day and each see 5 pages more, our gain will be exactly €0.
If we implement this update (desynchronization of all the actions except for travel and some other special actions), it is because we firmly think that, on the one hand, after a period of adaptation, current players will find an interest there (or, in the worst case, for some who only login once per day, will not be put at any disadvantage) and, on the other hand, new players will be more interested in the game. Indeed, nowadays, the population of Gloria Regni has been stable overall for 2 years now and new players point out as a main theme – and I must say that I understand them perfectly – that in this game there are not enough actions per day. With this system, the old style of the game will be preserved yet those who want to earn a bit more will be able to do so. In addition, the synchronization of the basic actions at 4h in the morning requires players to think about moving from one day to the next and this is not natural or intuitive, especially when 4h in the morning, Paris GMT time, falls in the middle of the day as it is the case for many players outside Europe.
Don't set in opposition, as some will, old players, experienced and good in all things, against future players who will be illiterate fools good only at “clicking buttons”. Remember that you were new players one day and your game experience was conditioned by the experience which you had in other games, just as new players are now gaining their own experience. Nowadays, this experience has changed and what the competition provides has changed as well. Nowadays, in these kind of games on the Web or Facebook, one can play for a longer time (one is also more guided at the beginning, etc). It is a fact. Actually, I put myself recently in the shoes of a new player, and I was indeed forced to admit that the new-game experience seems to have aged since the creation of Renaissance Kingdoms in 2004.
If you look at other web gaming companies, in France or abroad, you will see that all choose one of these two strategies:
- They exploit one or two games, on which nothing changes for many years. After all, why change a game which works well? These are the companies which “make a short-term profit”. These games die one after the other or disappear.
- They launch one game after another, not worrying about the previous game when they launch the next one.
At Celsius online, we have a different approach. We develop new games (one of which we will speak about again very soon), and we hope to extend and improve Renaissance Kingdoms, Native Kingdoms and Shogun Kingdoms, and grow our player numbers.
For a year now we have employed more people. The pace of our updates was never previously this quick, as shown by the development of medicine and the diseases, the RP rank colours and many other things. All this will evolve even faster, with the addition of new incredible features, some never seen on a web game before. The whole will be done by scrupulously respecting the original spirit of the game while renewing and clearing up those things that need it. In 2014, Renaissance Kingdoms will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Our goal is to set out again on an adventure for 10 more years!
Addendum (22-03-2013)
Hello,
A small addendum to the previous message.
On the one hand, the work duration in the mines has been reviewed. Now it will be enough to work 22 hrs to receive the usual daily wages; for each miner working 22 hrs this will therefore equate to the work of a full day, according to the old system, for the province.
On the other hand, some sheriffs are having some problems with the current situation and we want to help them. There are three reasons for their problems:
1st Modifying the mine maintenance cost (based on the ten days of the last thirty days with the greatest number of miners) was probably done too quickly.
2nd Likewise, the implementation of the new work time slots in the mines in the evening on Tuesday, 26th, led to a forcibly blank Wednesday, 27th (it's logical, the system basically moved forward the miners' pay, including the anticipated pay for a Sunday, and shifted the production by about 24 hrs). Some sheriffs therefore decided to close their mines for the next day, even the ones which were very profitable, though this was just a transition blip.
3rd And finally, there was a small bug that affected the rounding up of the maintenance costs for the mines.
As a result, we have implemented a small script to compensate the provinces for this third bug. There are no more bugs. We have also decided, on a temporary basis, to reduce the normal maintenance costs, the urgent maintenance costs and improvement costs for all mines by 40%. This is a measure which will provide some breathing space fo the provinces and even more. Take advantage of it!

Questa settimana su Regni Rinascimentali, Regni Rinascimentali e Shogun Kingdoms abbiamo implementato un cambiamento di funzionalità che consente di caratteri a lavorare nelle miniere di abbattere il loro lavoro in modo che possano fare gli intervalli di tempo 1h, 2h, 6h, 12h o 24h invece di fare che un obbligo " azione quotidiana ", in altre parole, un'azione che dura un giorno intero dalle 4 del mattino un giorno 04:00 del giorno successivo (questo esempio è per i Regni Rinascimentali e con il tempo di Parigi GMT).

1. La reazione dei membri del Consiglio responsabili delle miniere e l'economia
Prima di tutto una preoccupazione dagli sceriffi e dei sovrintendenti miniera: non è questo miglioramento riducano le risorse delle province?
La risposta è no. Per riferimento:
- Questo aggiornamento è stato effettuato con rendimenti costanti, in altre parole, indipendentemente gli slot di tempo lavorato dai giocatori i profitti ei costi di manutenzione sono sempre interessate da lo stesso coefficiente di moltiplicazione.
- Inoltre, penso che una volta che questo aggiornamento è regolata e costante, le risorse prodotte dai minatori sarà un po 'più importante di quanto lo fossero prima: il reddito, nonché i costi aumenteranno e così sarà l'utile netto.
Non sto parlando del nuovo meccanismo di lisciatura dei costi di manutenzione più di un mese, che ha molti aspetti che possono essere discusse, ma che interessa pochissimi giocatori direttamente.
In breve, la situazione attuale delle province non cambierà o solo di poco (e in senso buono).
Stiamo tutti lavorando anche su altre due cose:
- Migliorare le statistiche delle miniere per gli sceriffi ei sovrintendenti miniera perché sono un po 'complicato.
Per correggere un bug e decapitare i responsabili - ma ora abbiamo un nuovo sistema implementato all'interno di C: ogni codice fatto da uno sviluppatore deve essere approvata da due altri sviluppatori (che hanno anche a firmare un documento, oh sì!). Quindi, se c'è un bug ci saranno tre persone responsabili di decapitare.
2. "Clicca per vincere"?
Un secondo tipo di reazione è stato notato sul forum: qualche gemito che quei giocatori che sono in gioco più spesso può guadagnare più monete. E 'vero che non tutti possono accedere 4 volte al giorno e coloro che possono sono in grado di guadagnare un po' di più nelle miniere. Un giocatore anche coniato l'espressione "fare clic per vincere" (citazione).
Onestamente parlando, non sono convinto da queste reazioni. Da un lato, per quanto riguarda i giocatori che accedono più spesso e hanno un vantaggio nel gioco - lo dico chiaramente - che non rappresenta un particolare problema filosofico per me. In ogni caso, alla fine della giornata: qualcuno può essere agente di una provincia e l'accesso solo a giorni alterni? Ho i miei dubbi.
E 'anche opportuno ricordare che il vantaggio dato da queste azioni a breve è molto, molto moderata comunque. Se un giocatore si connette 24 volte (!) Al giorno, che sembra umanamente impossibile per me, si guadagneranno in media ... di più 7,5 monete (quindi +50%) rispetto a un giocatore che si collega una sola volta. Questo è molto poco per 24 account di accesso! Se prendiamo un approccio più ragionevole di circa 4 account di accesso per un giorno intero, che non è male in ogni caso, si guadagneranno un supplemento di 3 monete ... Sembra difficile a me, tuttavia, immaginare che questo può cambiare l'equilibrio di gioco così radicalmente. Qualche tempo fa abbiamo dato un paio di monete per i giocatori quando si fa clic su un certo link (alcuni dei nostri "siti partner"). Stiamo parlando sulla stessa linea qui.
Inoltre, siamo franchi: ho continuato a dire questo per la mia squadra per tutto il tempo che penso che questa massima (teorica) di profitto del solo 50% non è onestamente abbastanza.
Mentre sto scrivendo farò una breve nota parte adesso. Alcuni di voi forse si ritrasse durante la lettura di 24 account di accesso per giorni essere "umanamente impossibile". In modo che le persone non considerano furbi cercando di creare bot per lavorare nelle miniere, senza dover fare clic: si rileva questo, troveremo il vostro indirizzo fisico, noi verremo a casa tua, ci farà male i vostri parenti stretti e lo faremo mangiare i vostri animali domestici. 3. Organizzativa problema: il caso di coloro che non accedere regolarmente
Una terza serie di reazioni sembrano molto importante per me e abbiamo guardato con molta attenzione. Esse riguardano i giocatori che sostanzialmente dicono che "dato il modo in cui ho il gioco questo aggiornamento mi penalizzare / complicare la mia vita." E 'un problema che si può descrivere come un problema di organizzazione (diventa più difficile per il giocatore di organizzare il loro gioco).
Consideriamo il caso in cui un account di accesso di giocatori in genere in sera 19:30 circa dopo il ritorno dal lavoro IRL. Supponiamo che lavorano nelle miniere. Supponiamo che hanno scelto di lavorare per 24 ore. Sembra che nulla cambia per il giocatore: si guadagnano lo stesso importo per tale periodo di 24 ore.
Solo che, il giorno dopo, tornano dal loro lavoro precedente alle ore 18:30. Devono aspettare un'ora prima di essere in grado di fare un'azione. Immaginiamo che, di conseguenza, faranno qualcosa di diverso (RP sul forum, lavaggio-up, compiti a casa). Tornano alle ore 20:00 e possibile fare clic per lavorare 24 ore. Come risultato, il giorno seguente, dopo essere tornato dal lavoro alle 19:30, si rendono conto ... che devono ancora aspettare 30 minuti per essere in grado di lavorare di nuovo nella miniera. In breve, è molto meno pratico.
Per contrastare questo problema la soluzione è semplice: invece di 24 ore della durata, la più lunga azione (che corrisponde alla quantità giornaliera abituale) durerà 22 ore (anche 20 ore, ci stiamo pensando). Così, queste conseguenze si spostano da un giorno all'altro scompare.
4. Problema organizzativo 2: interazione con altri economia azioni basate
Altri problemi di organizzazione sono stati segnalati dai giocatori che hanno evidenziato l'interazione tra il lavoro nella miniera (azione desincronizzato) e le altre azioni del gioco (azioni sincrone). Quindi penso che un chiarimento dovrebbe essere fatto.
Infatti, i giocatori sottolineano che la sovrapposizione di tempo di vari tipi di azioni rende il gioco complicato: se qualcuno lavora nella miniera tra 1h e 7h la mattina e non possono effettuare nessuna più quotidiane come lavorare in un campo o in movimento con un esercito.
Parliamo di questi singoli "economia a base di" azioni (il lavoro nei campi, nella chiesa, nella sua officina, ecc), diversi da quelli delle azioni di viaggio. Queste azioni saranno tutti disaccoppiato nel prossimo futuro. Che porterà molta più flessibilità per i giocatori. Per esempio, qualcuno sarà in grado di lavorare in miniera tra 1 e 7, quindi i pesci 7-8, poi lavorare nel loro laboratorio per 24 ore.
Nota a margine: l'azione desincronizzato non equivale necessariamente ad agire frammentato. Non sarà possibile (almeno nel prossimo futuro) per lavorare solo 6 ore in campo di un abitante. D'altra parte, non vedo un problema con un fabbro facendo solo un secchio se lo vogliono.
In breve, su questo punto: lavoreremo rapidamente sul disaccoppiamento totale come era stato pianificato.
5. Problema organizzativo 3: interazione con le azioni di viaggio
Ora, che l'interazione tra le azioni desincronizzato e le azioni di viaggio? Infatti, contrariamente alle azioni di economia a base, non vedo proprio che vengano desincronizzato (influenzano molti giocatori).
La risposta è semplice: non appena tutta l'economia a base di azioni sono desincronizzato (in modo che non ci saranno eventuali carenze), non vedo alcun problema con i giocatori liberamente effettuare, a determinate condizioni, azioni di viaggio. Pertanto, un giocatore potrebbe lavorare in miniera fino a 23h, 23h e decidono di viaggiare alla città della porta accanto.
6. Perché lo stiamo facendo?
Ci sono ancora molte domande: alla fine della giornata, perché cambiare questa, da dove viene questo ci vuole? Questa è una domanda fondamentale, e forse avremmo dovuto iniziare con quello.
Cerchiamo di risolvere rapidamente i giocatori che hanno gemette sotto il tema generale "è motivato Tutto questo dalla volontà di mostrare più avvisi di guadagnare di più. E 'per profitto a breve termine, che è davvero male ". Per cominciare, non abbiamo mai implementato questo aggiornamento con l'obiettivo di visualizzare annunci sempre di più. Ma anche se fosse, non avremmo un grosso problema nel dirlo - Celsius Online è una società che deve pagare i suoi stipendi ogni mese.
Ma soprattutto, e di tutti coloro che conoscono un po 'il web lo sanno, ciò che determina i ricavi pubblicitari, su un sito come Regni Rinascimentali, non è il numero di pagine visitate per utente (che è già troppo importante per i supervisori), ma il numero di utenti. Se i giocatori login due volte al giorno e ogni 5 pagine più vedere, il nostro guadagno sarà esattamente € 0.
Se implementare questo aggiornamento (desincronizzazione di tutte le azioni, tranne per i viaggi e alcune altre azioni speciali), è perché siamo fermamente pensare che, da un lato, dopo un periodo di adattamento, i giocatori attuali troveranno un interesse c'è (o, nel caso peggiore, per alcuni che accedere solo una volta al giorno, non verrà messo in qualsiasi svantaggio) e, dall'altro, i nuovi giocatori saranno più interessati nel gioco. Infatti, al giorno d'oggi, la popolazione di Gloria Regni è globalmente stabile per 2 anni e nuovi giocatori sottolineare come tema principale - e devo dire che li capisco perfettamente - che in questo gioco non ci sono abbastanza azioni al giorno. Con questo sistema, il vecchio stile del gioco verranno mantenuti ancora chi vuole guadagnare un po 'di più sarà in grado di farlo. Inoltre, la sincronizzazione delle azioni di base a 4 ore del mattino richiede ai giocatori di pensare di muovere da un giorno all'altro e questo non è naturale o intuitivo, specialmente quando 4h del mattino, ora di Parigi GMT, cade in mezzo il giorno come è il caso per molti giocatori extraeuropei.
Non impostare in opposizione, come un po 'di volontà, giocatori vecchi, esperienza e buono in tutte le cose, contro i giocatori futuri che saranno stolti analfabeti buono solo a "pulsanti facendo clic su". Ricordati che tu eri nuovi giocatori un giorno e la tua esperienza di gioco è stato condizionato dall'esperienza che hai avuto in altri giochi, così come i nuovi giocatori stanno guadagnando la propria esperienza. Al giorno d'oggi, questa esperienza è cambiato e cosa offre la concorrenza è cambiato. Al giorno d'oggi, in questo tipo di giochi sul web o Facebook, si può giocare per un tempo più lungo (uno è anche più guidato all'inizio, ecc.) È un fatto. A dire il vero, mi sono messo di recente nei panni di un nuovo giocatore, e mi è stato effettivamente costretto ad ammettere che la nuova esperienza di gioco sembra aver invecchiato dalla creazione di Regni Rinascimentali nel 2004.
Se guardate le altre società di gioco web, in Francia o all'estero, vedrete che tutto scegliere una di queste due strategie:
- Sfruttano una o due partite, in cui nulla cambia per molti anni. Dopo tutto, perché cambiare un gioco che funziona bene? Queste sono le aziende che "fanno un profitto a breve termine". Questi giochi muoiono uno dopo l'altro o scomparire.
- Lanciano una partita dopo l'altra, non preoccuparsi della partita precedente, quando lancio il prossimo.
A Celsius online, abbiamo un approccio diverso. Sviluppiamo nuovi giochi (uno dei quali parleremo ancora molto presto), e speriamo di ampliare e migliorare Regni Rinascimentali, Regni Rinascimentali e Shogun Kingdoms, e far crescere i nostri numero di giocatori.
Da un anno abbiamo impiegato più persone. Il ritmo dei nostri aggiornamenti non è mai stato così veloce in precedenza, come dimostra lo sviluppo della medicina e le malattie, i colori rango RP e molte altre cose. Tutto questo si evolverà ancora più veloce, con l'aggiunta di nuove incredibili caratteristiche, alcune mai visto su un gioco web prima. Il tutto sarà fatto rispettando scrupolosamente lo spirito originale del gioco durante il rinnovo e chiarire quelle cose che ne hanno bisogno. Nel 2014, Regni Rinascimentali celebrerà il suo 10 ° anniversario. Il nostro obiettivo è quello di definire di nuovo su un avventura per altri 10 anni!
Addendum (22-03-2013)

Un piccolo addendum al messaggio precedente.
Da un lato, la durata lavoro nelle miniere è stato valutato. Ora sarà sufficiente per lavorare 22 ore per ricevere il salario giornaliera abituale, per ogni minatore 22 ore di lavoro questo sarà quindi equivale al lavoro di un giorno intero, secondo il vecchio sistema, per la provincia.
D'altra parte, alcuni sceriffi stanno avendo alcuni problemi con la situazione attuale e noi vogliamo aiutarli. Ci sono tre ragioni per i loro problemi:
1 Modifica del costo di manutenzione miniera (in base alle dieci giorni degli ultimi trenta giorni con il maggior numero di minatori) è stato probabilmente fatto troppo in fretta.
2 Allo stesso modo, l'attuazione dei nuovi slot di tempo di lavoro nelle miniere di sera, Martedì, 26, ha portato ad una forza vuota Mercoledì, 27 (è logico, il sistema fondamentalmente spostato in avanti paga dei minatori, tra cui la retribuzione prevista per un domenica, e spostato la produzione di circa 24 ore). Alcuni sceriffi pertanto deciso di chiudere le loro miniere per il giorno successivo, anche quelli che erano molto redditizi, anche se questo era solo un puntino di transizione.
3 E, infine, c'è stato un piccolo bug che ha colpito l'arrotondamento dei costi di manutenzione per le miniere.
Di conseguenza, abbiamo implementato un piccolo script per compensare le province per questo bug terzo. Non ci sono bug non di più. Abbiamo anche deciso, in via temporanea, di ridurre i costi di manutenzione ordinaria, i costi di manutenzione urgenti e dei costi di miglioramento per tutte le miniere del 40%. Questa è una misura che darà un po 'di respiro spazio fo le province e anche di più. Approfittatene!
